Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)

A gentle and effective path toward lasting emotional healing

What Is Accelerated Resolution Therapy?

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is an evidence-based approach that helps the brain process and release distressing memories, images, and sensations. Through a series of guided eye movements, clients are able to replace the emotional pain connected to difficult experiences with calm, peace, and clarity—without having to retell or relive traumatic events in detail.

While ART incorporates elements of established therapies like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), it is unique in how quickly many clients notice relief. Research and client feedback show that meaningful change can often happen in just a few sessions, compared to the longer course of traditional talk therapy.

How ART Works?

During an ART session, the therapist gently guides you through specific eye-movement sets while you focus on an issue or memory that causes distress. These eye movements activate your brain’s natural ability to reprocess and store information in a new way.

  • You remain fully awake, alert, and in control at all times.

  • This is NOT hypnosis. You decide what to focus on, what to share, and what feels right for you.

  • Most clients describe feeling lighter, clearer, and more at peace by the end of a session.

What to Expect in a Session?

Sessions typically last about 60 minutes. You and your therapist will begin by identifying a target issue or emotion to focus on, and then work through guided eye-movement sequences designed to reduce the physical and emotional intensity of the memory.

Many clients experience:

  • Noticeable reduction in anxiety, fear, or sadness

  • A sense of closure or emotional release

  • Improved sleep, focus, and daily functioning

  • Renewed sense of calm and confidence

Faith Friendly

At Restoring Hope Counseling, we recognize that faith and healing are deeply connected for many individuals. ART aligns beautifully with these values. It works with the mind and body in a way that honors your beliefs, not challenges them.

Clients often describe ART as feeling like a spiritually peaceful experience, one that restores inner balance and allows them to move forward without being weighed down by the past. Whether you approach therapy from a place of faith, spirituality, or personal growth, ART meets you where you are.

Who Can Benefit from ART?

ART has been shown to be effective for:

  • Trauma and PTSD

  • Anxiety and panic

  • Grief and loss

  • Depression

  • Relationship pain

  • Self-esteem and confidence issues

  • Guilt, shame, and intrusive memories

  • Stress related to life transitions

Why Choose ART?

Clients often appreciate ART because:

  • It produces faster results. Many notice improvement in 1–5 sessions.

  • It’s non-invasive. You don’t have to retell painful stories in detail.

  • It’s gentle and empowering. You remain in full control throughout the process.

  • It complements faith, family, and traditional therapy goals.
